Injury-Afflicted MIT Football Team Blown Out by Western N.E.
The MIT Engineers arrived in Springfield this past weekend looking to spoil Western New England College’s homecoming, but the Golden Bears proved to be too much for Tech. The stands were filled to watch the Golden Bears defeat the Cardinal and Grey 59-21.

The MIT cycling team won 22 medals during its bid for the 2009 Division-II Collegiate Track Championship, successfully defending itts 2008 title. Guo-Liang Chew ’10, Matthew C. Blackburn G, Martha W. Buckley G, Nick C. Loomis G, Michael L. Garrett G, Yuri Matsumoto G, Laura R. Ralston G, Zachary A. Labry G, Timothy J. Humpton ’10, and Jose H. Soltren all competed at the championships for MIT.

The football team lost its game against Curry College on Saturday 20-10.

The MIT women’s cross country team entered this past weekend with its highest national ranking in program history, as it rose to No. 4 in all of Division III. Competing against the tops teams in New England from across all Divisions, the Engineers more than lived up to their ranking, finishing fourth as a team. Jacqueline M. Wentz ‘10 led the way for the Cardinal and Grey with a third-place finish, the best individual result in Institute history at the All-New England Meet.

Coming off one of the most successful campaigns in the program’s 101-year history that featured the team’s first ever berth in the NCAA Tournament, MIT men’s basketball coach Larry Anderson has been named the Division III New England College Coach of the Year by the New England Basketball Hall of Fame. Anderson will be honored at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Friday, October 9 at the Mohegan Sun hotel in Uncasville, Conn.

MIT Football Shuts Out UMass-Dartmouth for Season’s First Win
When the MIT Engineers took the field Saturday, they were not only competing against the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth Corsairs, but also the weather — reminiscent of their first storm-delayed game three weeks ago at Massachusetts Maritime Academy. This time, however, the Engineers’ impressive performance both offensively and defensively led them to a shutout victory over UMass-Dartmouth — the first win over the Corsairs in a decade.
Shorthanded Women’s Tennis Team Falls to Tufts, but Wins Against Clark
This past Friday, MIT Women’s tennis suffered a tough loss to Tufts 9-0. The tennis team was down to six players due to sickness and injuries, making for an interesting lineup. They came back to win on Saturday against Clark University.
