Cross country teams go to Nationals
The men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to Waverly, Iowa on Saturday where Wartburg College hosted the Division III National Championship on their Max Cross Country Course.

The water polo team won against Fordham University in a tight game with a final score of 7-6, taking seventh place in the CWPA Eastern Championship. The game began with a strong offense from MIT, gaining a 2-1 lead. However, Fordham quickly caught up, taking the lead from the Engineers.

As players swap in and out, teams lose integrity
With so many players leaving their former teams due to free agency and trading between teams today in professional sports, teams are losing their integrity — the maintenance of the key players that form the essence of the team over a period of time.
Men’s basketball starts season with 91-61 win
Noel Hollingsworth ’12 had 18 points as the MIT men’s basketball team opened its 2010-11 campaign with a convincing 91-61 win over Emmanuel College on Tuesday night in Rockwell Cage. Mitchell H. Kates ’13 and James D. “Jamie” Karraker ’12 each chipped in with 17 points for the Engineers, who debuted at No. 15 in the national preseason rankings.
Taekwondo opens season with win
After months of intense training and preparation, including members competing on the U.S. national collegiate team over the summer, the MIT Sport Taekwondo Club took first place at the first Eastern Collegiate Taekwondo Conference (ECTC) tournament of the season, held at MIT on Saturday, October 23rd. The team, coached by Master Dan Chuang and led by team captains Jason J. Uh ’10 and Erika Lee ’12, fought their way through an event with approximately 450 competitors from over 20 schools in order to clinch the victory. The tournament, run by members of the MIT Sport Taekwondo Club, was the largest ever all-collegiate taekwondo tournament ever held in the United States.

Men’s hoops ready for the new season
The MIT men’s basketball team, which rose as high as No. 8 in the national rankings last season, will be looking to continue to build on last year’s success and have another championship caliber season. After winning the NEWMAC regular-season and Tournament championships, earning consecutive bids to the NCAA Division III Tournament, and securing its third All-American in six years, MIT is rapidly establishing a reputation. The Engineers, who debuted at No. 15 in the D3Hoops Pre-Season Top 25, return four starters from last season’s 22-5 team, who accounted for 89 percent of their scoring and 81 percent of their rebounding.
Cross country wins Regionals
The MIT men’s and women’s cross-country teams traveled to Mt. Greylock High School in Williamstown, Massachusetts on Saturday with their sights set on qualifying for the NCAA Division III Championship.
Engineers make NEWMAC all-conference teams this fall
Several MIT athletes received NEWMAC postseason honors this week.

Injuries gave football team a losing season
With a loss on Saturday at Endicott College, the MIT football program ends its season at 1-8. After a promising win to open the season, the Engineers were unable to improve on their win total from last year.
Bentley takes down MIT Rugby
In the New England regional finals this past Saturday, the MIT Women’s Rugby team fell to Bentley 29-15 in 80 minutes of play. As a result, they have ended their run in the playoffs and will be unable to defend their national title this year.
Babson defeats MIT in field hockey final
The MIT field hockey played in the NEWMAC semifinals and finals this past weekend at Babson College in an attempt to defend its conference title. They defeated Wheaton 6-1 in the semifinals, but fell to Babson by the same score in the conference final.
Engineers miss the goal in NEWMAC soccer playoffs
On Saturday, both the men’s and women’s soccer teams played in their conference semifinals. Neither team, however, could pull out a victory and advance to the NEWMAC finals.

MIT’s women’s volleyball team lost to Springfield College in the NEWMAC Semifinals, 25-23, 25-21, and 25-13. The Engineers finished the season with a record of 21-14. In the first set Springfield started with a 6-0 lead, but MIT fought back, gaining a 14-13 lead in the middle of the set. The second was closer in score, but after an attack error from the Engineers, Springfield took another win, giving them a 2-0 lead over the Engineers. In the third set, MIT kept the score close to Springfield, but ultimately Springfield took the win, ending the Engineers’ playoff run. Kelly E. Schulte ’12 tallied eight kills, two aces, and two blocks and Trinity P. Leonard ’13 posted seven kills and eight digs in the losing effort.

Women’s soccer beats Wellesley on PK shootout MIT wins 3-1 on penalties after 110 scoreless minutes, will play Babson Saturday
The MIT women’s soccer team faced the Wellesley Blue in the first round of NEWMAC playoffs Tuesday afternoon in Steinbrenner Stadium. After playing to a 0-0 tie after regulation and two overtimes, the third-seeded Engineers won the penalty shootout 3-1 to earn their 13th win and a trip to the conference semifinals.
Volleyball sweeps WPI to advance
With a 25-15, 25-8, 25-23 victory over WPI in NEWMAC Championship Tournament quarterfinal match on Tuesday, the MIT women’s volleyball team clinched a spot in the semifinal round for the 13th straight season. No. 4-seeded MIT improved to 21-13 on the year and will face host and top seed Springfield College on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. No. 5 WPI closed its season with a final record of 22-9.

Three-time defending champion MIT had five runners finish in the top eight — including a pair of freshmen — and the Engineers won their fourth straight New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s cross country championship on Saturday afternoon at Moore State Park.
