Rifle comes up short
Opening the season on the road, the MIT rifle team traveled to West Point, New York to take on teams from the U.S. Military Academy and the University of Memphis. In the end the Black Knights won the three-way competition with a score of 4,632, with the Tigers a close second with 4,626 points and the Engineers third with 4,418.
Men’s soccer team loses to Wheaton
Wheaton College’s Travis Blair netted the game’s lone goal at 10:32 off a penalty kick to provide the No. 17 Lyons a 1-0 victory against MIT on Saturday afternoon at Roberts Field in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. With the victory, Wheaton improves to 11-2-1 overall and 4-0-0 in conference play, while MIT falls to 4-4-4 and 1-3-0.
One goal separated MIT from Wheaton College Goals by Krishnamachar ’15, Moroi ’16 propel MIT field hockey team to 3-2 victory
MIT Ambika M. Krishnamachar ’15 netted the go-ahead goal midway through the second half, which proved to be the difference as the Engineers defeated Wheaton College, 3-2, in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday afternoon at Mirrione Stadium. With the win, MIT improves to 7-3-2 overall and 3-0-1 in conference play, while Wheaton falls to 7-5-1 and 1-2-0.
MIT overcomes Wellesley in tie-break set to earn victory
The MIT women’s volleyball team outlasted Wellesley College for a 25-17, 26-24, 15-25, 26-28, 15-4 victory in a NEWMAC match on Tuesday night. In the Engineers’ first regular-season win over the Blue since 2009, Jennifer L. Astrachan ’15 led all players with 27 kills on a .338 hitting performance in addition to recording three aces for the Cardinal and Gray (18-2, 5-1 NEWMAC).
Women’s soccer earns win
Nicole M. Miko ’18 registered her first goal of the season at 98:58 in overtime following a feed from Morgan K. Moroi ’16 as the Engineers rallied to defeat Clark University, 2-1, on Saturday, October 11 in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. With the victory, MIT improves to 8-3-2 overall and 4-0-1 in conference play, while Clark falls to 1-11-0 and 0-4-0.
Tennis team bests Wheaton
Playing a dual match for the first time in nearly two weeks, the MIT women’s tennis team did not miss a beat as the Engineers remained undefeated in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play with a 9-0 win over Wheaton College on Saturday, October 4. The victory improved MIT to 6-0 (6-0 NEWMAC) on the season while Wheaton fell to 4-4 (4-2 NEWMAC).
Women’s soccer team rolls past Mount Holyoke
Four different players located the back of the Mount Holyoke College net as the Engineers cruised to a 4-0 victory against the Lyons on Saturday, October 4 at Roberts Field at Steinbrenner Stadium in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. With the win, the Engineers improve to 6-3-2 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play, while the Lyons fall to 4-7-0 and 0-3-0.
Football’s offense is too much for Curry College
Playing on the road for the first time this season the MIT football team churned out 462 yards of offense, 311 of it on the ground, as the Engineers rolled past Curry College, 49-20, in a New England Football Conference (NEFC) game on Friday, October 3. The win keeps MIT undefeated at 4-0 and broke a 16-game losing streak to the Colonels dating back to 1997.
MIT women’s volleyball bests Clark University
The MIT women’s volleyball team emerged with a hard-fought 25-17, 21-25, 25-20, 25-19 victory over Clark University in a NEWMAC battle on Tuesday night. Jennifer L. Astrachan ’15 led all players with a career-high 19 kills to go along with a .375 hitting percentage as the Engineers improved to 15-2 on the year and 4-1 in conference play. For the Cougars (6-9, 1-4 NEWMAC), freshman Marina Ramos led the way with 13 kills, a .312 hitting effort, 17 digs, and two aces.
Cricket team falls twice in return to league play
MIT resumed its American College Cricket (ACC) league campaign on Sept. 14 via back-to-back away games against Harvard University. In the previous semester, both teams had won a game each, with all to play for. Winning the toss, MIT elected to bowl first and immediately put Harvard under pressure.
MIT cricket bounces back from losses with two wins
Hurting from the losses against Harvard University, MIT were looking forward to imposing themselves on the Boston University (BU) Terriers on September 20. MIT fielding coach and talisman, Saad Shoukat ’15, had taken the losses seriously and put his charges through a grueling training session which turned out to be the difference between the teams.
Football team progresses to 3-0 start
For the first time in the modern history of the MIT football program the Engineers have started a season with three straight wins after taking a 48-26 victory over Salve Regina University this afternoon. In the first New England Football Conference game for both schools, Justin R. Wallace ’15 scored the first of his four touchdowns just two minutes in as the Engineers took an early lead that they did not surrender. Wallace finished with 152 yards rushing to lead MIT, while quarterback Steve Wilken put up 385 yards of total offense to lead the Seahawks.
Women’s soccer team wins 2-1
Morgan K. Moroi ’16 recorded one goal and one assist as MIT claimed their first New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory with a 2-1 win over Springfield College on Saturday, September 27. MIT, which improves to 5-3-2 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play, earns their first victory against the Pride since defeating them in the NEWMAC Championship in 2009, while Springfield, which is currently ranked seventh in New England, falls to 4-2-1 and 1-1.

For the second time in three weeks, the MIT men’s soccer team received NEWMAC Athlete of the Week honors as freshman Joshua M. Wilson ‘18 was tabbed Defender of the Week on Monday. The accolade comes following a successful week for the Engineers, who captured back-to-back contests against Emerson College and Roger Williams University.
MIT edges Babson, 5-4
In a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) battle of undefeated women’s tennis teams, MIT came from behind to edge Babson College, 5-4, keeping its win streak intact at five to start the season. Babson, which had taken a 2-1 advantage after doubles, saw its seven-match win streak snapped.
