Football’s offense is too much for Curry College
Playing on the road for the first time this season the MIT football team churned out 462 yards of offense, 311 of it on the ground, as the Engineers rolled past Curry College, 49-20, in a New England Football Conference (NEFC) game on Friday, October 3. The win keeps MIT undefeated at 4-0 and broke a 16-game losing streak to the Colonels dating back to 1997.
MIT women’s volleyball bests Clark University
The MIT women’s volleyball team emerged with a hard-fought 25-17, 21-25, 25-20, 25-19 victory over Clark University in a NEWMAC battle on Tuesday night. Jennifer L. Astrachan ’15 led all players with a career-high 19 kills to go along with a .375 hitting percentage as the Engineers improved to 15-2 on the year and 4-1 in conference play. For the Cougars (6-9, 1-4 NEWMAC), freshman Marina Ramos led the way with 13 kills, a .312 hitting effort, 17 digs, and two aces.
Cricket team falls twice in return to league play
MIT resumed its American College Cricket (ACC) league campaign on Sept. 14 via back-to-back away games against Harvard University. In the previous semester, both teams had won a game each, with all to play for. Winning the toss, MIT elected to bowl first and immediately put Harvard under pressure.
MIT cricket bounces back from losses with two wins
Hurting from the losses against Harvard University, MIT were looking forward to imposing themselves on the Boston University (BU) Terriers on September 20. MIT fielding coach and talisman, Saad Shoukat ’15, had taken the losses seriously and put his charges through a grueling training session which turned out to be the difference between the teams.
Football team progresses to 3-0 start
For the first time in the modern history of the MIT football program the Engineers have started a season with three straight wins after taking a 48-26 victory over Salve Regina University this afternoon. In the first New England Football Conference game for both schools, Justin R. Wallace ’15 scored the first of his four touchdowns just two minutes in as the Engineers took an early lead that they did not surrender. Wallace finished with 152 yards rushing to lead MIT, while quarterback Steve Wilken put up 385 yards of total offense to lead the Seahawks.
Women’s soccer team wins 2-1
Morgan K. Moroi ’16 recorded one goal and one assist as MIT claimed their first New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory with a 2-1 win over Springfield College on Saturday, September 27. MIT, which improves to 5-3-2 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play, earns their first victory against the Pride since defeating them in the NEWMAC Championship in 2009, while Springfield, which is currently ranked seventh in New England, falls to 4-2-1 and 1-1.

For the second time in three weeks, the MIT men’s soccer team received NEWMAC Athlete of the Week honors as freshman Joshua M. Wilson ‘18 was tabbed Defender of the Week on Monday. The accolade comes following a successful week for the Engineers, who captured back-to-back contests against Emerson College and Roger Williams University.
MIT edges Babson, 5-4
In a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) battle of undefeated women’s tennis teams, MIT came from behind to edge Babson College, 5-4, keeping its win streak intact at five to start the season. Babson, which had taken a 2-1 advantage after doubles, saw its seven-match win streak snapped.
Men’s soccer team earns win in season opener
For the second time this week, MIT’s Joshua M. Wilson ’18 located the back of the net twice as the Engineers defeated Emerson College, 3-0, on Saturday, September 20 in their New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener at Roberts Field at Steinbrenner Stadium. Wilson netted his first goal from outside the box following a feed from Chester Chambers ’15 at 26:20 before depositing his second marker off a free kick at 80:55 in the second half.
MIT’s field hockey team comes out with 4-3 victory in overtime
Siobhan K. Rigby ’16 found the back of the cage with 1:01 remaining in overtime to give MIT a 4-3 victory over Springfield College in a NEWMAC field hockey game on Saturday, September 20. Caitlin A. Mackey ’15 registered one goal and one assist for the Engineers (6-0, 1-0 NEWMAC) while Jamie Raccosta also paced the Pride (3-2, 0-1 NEWMAC) with one goal and one assist.
Women’s tennis team keeps perfect record with 9-0 win at home
Playing at home, the MIT women’s tennis team kept its win streak to start the 2014-15 season alive Saturday, September 20 as the Engineers defeated Mount Holyoke College, 9-0, in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference match. It was the second straight match in which the Engineers did not allow its opponent to score a point.
MIT defeats Lasell College in non-conference match
A strong performance by MIT’s defense that produced a 37-3 advantage in shots helped the Engineers defeat Lasell College, 2-0, in a non-conference field hockey game on Tuesday afternoon. The Cardinal and Gray’s second straight shutout lifted its ledger to 5-0 on the season.
MIT and Roger Williams soccer teams tie, 1-1
For the second year in a row, MIT and Roger Williams University concluded their match in 1-1 tie on Tuesday afternoon at Roberts Field at Steinbrenner Stadium. Morgan K. Moroi ’16 netted her initial goal of the season at 3:29 following a pass from Ashley J. Peter ’15 before Roger Williams countered with a strike by Haley Carignan roughly six minutes later.
Champions League set to return September 16
As club soccer slowly picks up speed all around Europe, Champions League is set to make its return to the center stage on Sept. 16 and 17 with the first round of group matches. This year’s group stages will showcase some new teams and some old teams who have managed to make long-awaited returns to the Champions League. There will also be the Bulgarian Ludogorets, who are completely new to the Champions League stage, looking to continue their fairy-tale run. So, as you tune into the upcoming matches, let’s take a look at the groups:
Women’s volleyball team sweeps in home tourney
The MIT women’s volleyball team swept its way to the 2014 MIT Invitational title on Saturday, September 13, claiming its sixth championship in the 25-year history of the tournament. The Engineers (11-1) blanked Emmanuel College (28-26, 25-13, 25-15) and Connecticut College (25-17, 25-20, 25-12) on Friday before wrapping up the tournament with victories over Bates College (27-25, 25-17, 25-21) and Endicott College (25-21, 25-17, 25-17). Nicole C. Gagnier ’15 was named the Tournament MVP while Megan E. Gebhard ’17 earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
