MIT hosts first Taekwando tournament of the season
On last Sunday, Oct. 19, the MIT Sport Taekwondo Club organized and competed in the first Eastern Collegiate Taekwondo Conference (ECTC) tournament of the season. Hosted on campus at the Johnson Athletics Center, the tournament attracted over 420 competitors from 23 schools. Showing MIT’s depth across several divisions, 43 team members competed with strong performances in a long day of forms and sparring.
Men’s soccer defeated by Springfield 1-0 Saturday
Springfield College’s Brian Malone netted the match’s only goal at 20:32 as the Pride defeated MIT, 1-0, on Saturday, October 25 at Roberts Field at Steinbrenner Stadium in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. With the win, Springfield improves to 7-5-5 overall and 2-3-1 in conference play, while MIT falls to 6-5-4 and 2-4.
Field hockey falls to Wellesley College, 4-0
A strong second half performance that featured three goals propelled nationally-ranked No. 10 Wellesley College to a 4-0 victory over MIT in a NEWMAC field hockey game on Tuesday night. Natalie Gruet produced two goals for the Blue, which improved to 14-2 on the year and 7-0 in conference play. The Engineers, meanwhile, saw their four-game winning streak come to an end as their ledger dipped to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in the NEWMAC.
Men’s soccer defeats Framingham State 2-1
For the second straight contest, Sean D. Bingham ’16 and Joshua M. Wilson ’18 each found the back of the net as the MIT men’s soccer team defeated Framingham State 2-1, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening at Maple Street Field. With the win, Tech improves to 6-4-4 overall, while the Rams fall to 4-9-2.
MIT keeps up solid form with 2-0 win
Morgan K. Moroi ’16 and Olivia M. Struckman ’18 each located the back of the Smith College net as MIT defeated the Pioneers, 2-0, on Saturday, October 18 at Roberts Field at Steinbrenner Stadium in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. With the win, MIT improves to 10-3-2 overall and 6-0-1 in the conference, while Smith falls to 5-6-1 and 3-3-0.
MIT pulls three-peat with a perfect ledger
For the third year in a row and eighth time in tournament history the MIT women’s volleyball team won the MIT Quad Tournament on Saturday, October 18. The Engineers (22-2) took top honors with a 3-0 ledger, followed by Colby College, SUNY Oneonta, and Western New England University. Megan E. Gebhard ’17 was named the Tournament MVP while Tori L. Wuthrich ’17 earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
MIT ballroom dance team sweeps Harvard Beginners
MIT Ballroom Dance Team started off the ballroom competitive season at the Harvard Beginners Competition this past weekend, taking at least half of all placements in the finals in all events in which we competed.

With the win, MIT improves to 9-3-2 overall and 5-0-1 in conference play, while Wellesley falls to 7-6-2 and 1-4-0.
Rifle comes up short
Opening the season on the road, the MIT rifle team traveled to West Point, New York to take on teams from the U.S. Military Academy and the University of Memphis. In the end the Black Knights won the three-way competition with a score of 4,632, with the Tigers a close second with 4,626 points and the Engineers third with 4,418.

Wheaton College’s Travis Blair netted the game’s lone goal at 10:32 off a penalty kick to provide the No. 17 Lyons a 1-0 victory against MIT on Saturday afternoon at Roberts Field in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. With the victory, Wheaton improves to 11-2-1 overall and 4-0-0 in conference play, while MIT falls to 4-4-4 and 1-3-0.

Krishnamachar ’15 netted the go-ahead goal midway through the second half, which proved to be the difference as the Engineers defeated Wheaton College, 3-2, in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday afternoon at Mirrione Stadium. With the win, MIT improves to 7-3-2 overall and 3-0-1 in conference play, while Wheaton falls to 7-5-1 and 1-2-0.
MIT overcomes Wellesley in tie-break set to earn victory
The MIT women’s volleyball team outlasted Wellesley College for a 25-17, 26-24, 15-25, 26-28, 15-4 victory in a NEWMAC match on Tuesday night. In the Engineers’ first regular-season win over the Blue since 2009, Jennifer L. Astrachan ’15 led all players with 27 kills on a .338 hitting performance in addition to recording three aces for the Cardinal and Gray (18-2, 5-1 NEWMAC).

Nicole M. Miko ’18 registered her first goal of the season at 98:58 in overtime following a feed from Morgan K. Moroi ’16 as the Engineers rallied to defeat Clark University, 2-1, on Saturday, October 11 in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. With the victory, MIT improves to 8-3-2 overall and 4-0-1 in conference play, while Clark falls to 1-11-0 and 0-4-0.
Tennis team bests Wheaton
Playing a dual match for the first time in nearly two weeks, the MIT women’s tennis team did not miss a beat as the Engineers remained undefeated in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play with a 9-0 win over Wheaton College on Saturday, October 4. The victory improved MIT to 6-0 (6-0 NEWMAC) on the season while Wheaton fell to 4-4 (4-2 NEWMAC).
