Dana Mead to Step Down as Chairman of MIT Corporation
After serving as Chairman of the MIT Corporation for six years and selecting Susan J. Hockfield as MIT’s latest president, Dana G. Mead PhD ’67 announced last Friday that he will be stepping down from his position at the end of June. According to Corporation bylaws, members may not be older than 75; Mead is currently 74.

ASA Releases Results From Space Processes; 39 Clubs Will Lose Out
The Association of Student Activities released preliminary decisions in student group space allocations last night. The process, which happens every two years, determines which student groups retain office space and which lose it, as well as which groups get storage space for equipment and supplies.

Kabelo Zwane, a sophomore and MIT’s first student from Swaziland, died in Bedford, Mass. on Saturday, November 7, in an apparent suicide. He was 21.
Ten Students Organize ‘Community Tour’; MIT President Might Watch on TV—Later
A group of MIT students are planning an event titled the “MIT Community Tour 2009,” scheduled for next Thursday, December 10. Labelled “Show Susan Hockfield Anything!”, the event starts in front of Hockfield’s residence, Gray House, at 10:00 a.m. and will visit locations “that reflect the inner workings of MIT that often go unnoticed,” the announcement said.

Caltech Students Pull Part of a Hack at MIT
Walking back to East Campus from the Student Center at around 6:30 yesterday morning, I stumbled across a banner crumpled on the steps outside 77 Massachusetts Avenue that looked like it was meant to be stretched across the pillars there. ‘Know Your Status’ Day Today in Student Center
The first annual ‘Know Your Status’ HIV Testing Day is happening today from 12–2 p.m. on the 3rd floor of the Student Center. Tests are done with oral swabs and each appointment takes about thirty minutes, said Kate McCarthy, program manager for sexual health and the organizer of the event. Most of the thirty spots available are reserved, but if space is available walk-ins will be accepted, McCarthy said.
