The MIT women’s ultimate frisbee team “sMITe” wrapped up its fall season this past weekend with a fifth-place finish at Huck-a-Hunk-O’-Burnin’-Pumpkin, a 12-team, two-day tournament hosted by Brown University in Portsmouth, R.I.

MIT Earns At-Large NCAA Bid; Reaches Finals of NEWMACs
The MIT women’s volleyball team earned an at-large bid to the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III tournament, despite losing in the finals of the conference tournament Saturday. Tech, the host for this weekend’s NCAA New England Regionals, plays its first regional match on Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. in Rockwell Cage.

The Engineers (33-1) will host the remainder of the tournament and square off with U.S. Coast Guard Academy at 5 p.m. today in a semifinal match up.
Sport Taekwondo Takes Second At Ivy Northeast Season Opener
The MIT Sport Taekwondo Club hosted the first tournament of the Ivy Northeast Collegiate Taekwondo League season on Sunday, Oct. 14. The tournament was attended by colleges from throughout the northeast. MIT finished with 484 points, behind only Cornell University with 698. In third place was Harvard University with 148 points.

Women’s Soccer Beats Wellesley; Ludlum Sets Record for Goals
Forward Amy S. Ludlum ’08 scored the 51st goal of her career to ignite the women’s soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Wellesley College. Fittingly, Ludlum’s finish occurred on Senior Day and marked the most career goals by a player in the history of the men’s and women’s programs.
Undefeated Volleyball Takes Down Wellesley; Best Season Since ’83
In a battle of undefeated women’s volleyball teams in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference, MIT emerged with a 30-28, 30-25, 30-23 win over Wellesley College on Tuesday night. The victory lifted the Engineers’ ledger to 26-1 overall and 7-0 in conference play and also extended their winning streak to 22 consecutive matches.
Women’s Soccer Defeats WPI 6-0; Hopmans Earns First Hat Trick
Janine M. Hopmans ’08 enjoyed the first multi-goal effort of her career by supplying a hat trick as MIT women’s soccer topped Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 6-0, in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference’s annual battle of the Engineers. Fellow captain Amy S. Ludlum ’08 factored in five of Tech’s finishes in helping MIT improve to 6-1 at home this season.

The MIT football team earned its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, beating Western New England College 26-21 in an away game. Quarterback Stephen C. Toth ’09 threw for 52 yards and two touchdowns, while DeRon M. Brown ’10 rushed for 138 yards and another touchdown. Toth replaced Brian P. Doyle ’11, who passed for 11 yards before leaving with an injury.
