MIT cricket team claims back-to-back titles
The MIT cricket team won the American College Cricket (ACC) League Home and Away Championship for the second time in as many seasons, finishing with a 9-2 record. The Engineers finished ahead of local rivals Harvard in the league that also included the likes of Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth, Northeastern, Boston University and UMass Lowell. The competition was fierce with MIT and UMass Lowell competing closely for the top spot. In the end, MIT won two consecutive matches away at UMass to ensure league victory.
Men’s swimming and diving bests Coast Guard, 211-89
The MIT men’s swimming and diving team, ranked No. 6 in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division III poll, returned to competition for the first time since early December with a 211-89 victory over the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday afternoon inside the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool.
Women’s swim & dive gets third at home invitational
The MIT women’s swimming and diving team, ranked No. 8 in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), finished third among nine teams at its own Winter Invitational with 875 points. The Engineers earned 16 NCAA “B” cuts over the three-day event.
Red Sox pay price to sign David Price
Following back-to-back seasons of last-place finishes in the American League (AL) East, the Red Sox splashed the cash early in the offseason, signing free agent David Price to a record-breaking 7-year, $217 million deal. This deal makes the left-handed ace the highest paid pitcher in the history of major league baseball and the first pitcher with a ‘one million dollar per start’ price tag.

The MIT men’s swimming and diving team, ranked No. 8 in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), finished in front of five teams to win its own Winter Invitational with 1,624.5 points. The Engineers earned 38 NCAA “B” cuts in total at the meet.

The MIT sailing team, ranked No. 14 in the latest Coed College World Sailing poll, placed 14th overall at the 2016 Rose Bowl Regatta hosted by the University of Southern California over the weekend.
Taekwondo club snatches 2nd place at Cornell tourney
On Sunday, Nov. 8, the MIT Sport Taekwondo Club placed second among Division I teams at the second Eastern Collegiate Taekwondo Conference tournament of the season, held at Cornell University.
Semester review: student athletes shine in fall 2015
This time last year, the MIT football team was the talk of the town. Following an unbeaten 9-0 regular season and a thrilling NCAA playoff victory in overtime, the Engineers hogged all the limelight and deservedly so. But just in case if you were wondering if Fall 2015 has been a quieter season for MIT sports, here is what you might have missed.

MIT (7-4) defeated Stanford for the first time in program history, sealing a 5-4 victory. The Engineers also defeated Hamilton College 6-3 but suffered a loss against Colby 7-2 during the weekend of Nov. 21–22. Justin Restivo ’19 and Jeffrey Hu ’18 were the only Engineers to win all three of their matches.
Men’s soccer season ends with loss to SUNY Oneonta
The MIT men’s soccer team, ranked No. 18 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll, saw their season come to a close with a 2-0 loss to No. 8 SUNY Oneonta in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
Men’s basketball begins its season on a winning note
On Tuesday, Nov. 17, MIT’s men’s basketball team had its first home game of the season, hosting Bridgewater State University. The Engineers appeared to be the better team that night, pulling away early in the second half and ending with a 64-47 win. Great defensive rotations and superior ball movement helped the Engineers outscore Bridgewater. Justin Pedley ’16 led the scoring for MIT with 29 points as Tim Batula ’17 chipped in with 10 rebounds and 13 points.
Gong takes regional title, leading cross country to 4th finish
MIT’s Maryann M. Gong ’17 won the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship on Saturday and helped the Engineers to a fourth place overall finish. Gong finished with a time of 21:36.3, which was nearly nine seconds faster than the second place finisher.
Squash loses 3 of 4 matches at Navy Round Robin
The MIT squash team, ranked No. 25 in the Dunlop Men’s College Squash Association (CSA) Preseason Poll, went 1-3 this weekend at the Navy Round Robin held at the United States Naval Academy over the weekend.

No. 4 seed Babson College defeated host and top-seeded MIT, 25-20, 25-11, 25-22, in the semifinals of the NEWMAC Championship Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
