Men’s lacrosse is fourth seed in Pilgrim League
The men’s lacrosse team secured the fourth and final seed in the Pilgrim League postseason tournament on Saturday with a solid 10-7 victory over visiting Clark University. With the win, the Engineers closed out the regular season with a record of eight wins and six losses, and they secured a playoff spot for the second consecutive year.
Men’s lacrosse falls to Babson
The MIT men’s lacrosse team fell to the Babson Beavers, 15-9, last Saturday in conference play, snapping a three-game winning streak for MIT. The Engineers dropped to 6-6 on the year while Babson improved to 9-4. However, following the loss, the Engineers still control their destiny and can make the conference playoffs by winning their final two games of the regular season, both home contests against Norwich University and Clark University.
Wrestling wins first national title in MIT history
Ten months after the varsity program was cut, the wrestling team won the 2010 National Collegiate Wrestling Association Division II National Championship on Saturday, March 13th in Hampton, VA. The Engineers scored 64.5 points as a team for a 7th overall finish with only five point-scoring wrestlers out of a possible eleven. Four MIT wrestlers earned All-American honors: co-captain Grant M. Kadokura ’11 became MIT’s first national champion at 125 lbs, while co-captain Joseph B. Silverman ’10 took second place at 197 lbs, Ryan J. Madson ‘13 placed fourth at 165 lbs, and Lucas C. Schiefelbein ‘13 placed seventh at 174 lbs. Graduate student Elena L. Glassman G represented MIT in the women’s division and took second place at 130 lbs.
MIT Grad Student Competes in Pool Trick Shot Contest in Vegas
MIT graduate student Timothy E. Chin G, the 21st ranked player in the nation, placed third out of twelve competitors in the Ultimate Trick Shot Challenge, a pool trick shot tournament held in Las Vegas this past August.
Blazers Cap Innaugural Season with Playoff Loss
The Boston Blazers, an expansion team for the National Lacrosse League (NLL), finished their inaugural season with an 11-8 first-round playoff loss to the Buffalo Bandits on May 2. The Blazers had a fine first season, finishing third in the NLL East Division with a 10-6 record and earning a playoff berth. Forward Daryl Veltman was chosen for the All-Rookie team and star forward Dan Dawson won the NLL Most Valuable Player award.
