Valentine’s Day Storm

By Michael J. Ring Feb. 13, 2007

December, January, and the first half of February have passed without a major snowstorm. As a result of this remarkable calm, Boston has only received 1.8 inches of snowfall to date this season, which is over two feet short of the climatological norm. But the quiet streak will be broken Wednesday, as the Northeast Corridor braces for the first Nor’easter of 2007.

The Heat Is On

By Michael J. Ring May. 8, 2007

After the generally dreary weather of March and April, anyone looking forward to summer will surely enjoy an early taste this week, as temperatures flirt with 80°F (27°C) in the coming days.

Cooldown Coming

By Michael J. Ring Apr. 24, 2007

After a rainy and raw few weeks, the summer-like weather of the past few days has been a most welcome diversion. Yesterday was the first day with above-80°F (27°C) weather in Boston since October 9 of last year. While today will again be mild (though not as warm as yesterday), the second half of the week will be nowhere near as pleasant as the past three days.

The Chill is Over

By Michael J. Ring Mar. 9, 2007

After a bitterly cold first week of March, the temperatures will finally moderate this weekend as the prevailing wind shifts from northwesterly to southwesterly. The frigid temperatures of the past few days — with low temperatures dipping down into the single digits for several mornings — has been the coldest March weather in Massachusetts in over half a decade. With a strong high pressure system pulling offshore today, the winds will shift direction in its wake and we will enjoy more seasonable temperatures.
