Shirley Ann Jackson, the first African-American female MIT student to earn a PhD, addresses the audience at the memorial service held in honor of Paul E. Gray, MIT's 14th president, in a ceremony Thursday Nov. 30. Paul E. Gray earned a bachelors, MS and PhD from MIT on 1954, 1955, and 1960 respectively, and served as MIT's president from 1980 to 1990. He passed away due to complications from Alzheimer's disease Sep. 18, 2017.
