Hot stretch of weather ahead
This coming weekend is shaping up to be one of the nicest weekends we have had all year
Today, temperatures will soar into the low 90s. Along with high humidity, these conditions will make it feel pretty sticky outside. There is a chance for some scattered thunderstorms in the late evening just after dinner time. Tomorrow will be a touch cooler; however, temperatures will still rise into the upper 80s, and it will still be humid. Again, there will be a chance for showers or thunderstorms throughout the day as a low-pressure disturbance passes through the region.
This coming weekend is shaping up to be one of the nicest weekends we have had all year. While temperatures will be in the mid 80s on Saturday and near 90 degrees on Sunday, dewpoints will only be in the 50s, making the air drier and much more pleasant. This lower humidity might pose an elevated fire risk, especially with stronger winds on Sunday and the abnormally dry conditions this spring. In fact, the year-to-date precipitation in Cambridge is only 62% of normal — a deficit of 8.56 inches. The U.S. Drought Monitor places the region at a level three (out of five) “severe drought.” While we might get some much needed rain these next few days, drought recovery is not looking likely any time soon. Temperatures look fairly steady next week, with highs in the upper 70s and low 80s.
