Inauguration Schedule for President Kornbluth Released

According to an email from MIT Institute Events, the Inauguration events for President Sally Kornbluth, MIT’s 18th president, are set to take place on Friday, April 29, and Monday, May 1, 2023. 

On May 1 2023, the formal inauguration ceremony for President Kornbluth will take place from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. on Killian Court. All are welcome to attend. 

Festivities will begin on the afternoon of April 29, with “food, fun, music, entertainment, and activities for all ages.” Various MIT acapella and dance groups will be performing, and MIT labs and centers will showcase their work. 

In the evening, a concert titled “We Are the Forest—Music of Resilience and Activism” will play music from Brazil and Puerto Rico and highlight the importance of music as a “shared language” and the “urgency of cultural and environmental sustainability.” No tickets are required to attend.

On Monday morning, an academic symposium will take place with an MIT faculty panel. According to the email, on-site seating will be determined by lottery. The formal inauguration ceremony will take place in the afternoon. In the evening, singer-songwriters Marc Cohn and Shawn Colvin will perform to close the festivities. Tickets are limited and will be allotted via lottery.
