Flexible P/NR policy approved in faculty meeting
The Flexible Pass/No Record policy was approved in a 134 to 14 vote during a faculty meeting May 13. The policy allows incoming undergraduates to retroactively designate up to 48 units as P/NR after the first semester.
The policy was first proposed by the Committee on the Undergraduate Program (CUP) in the March faculty meeting.
CUP Chair Arthur Bahr wrote in an email to The Tech that student input “vitally influence[d]” the Flexible P/NR proposal through “the active, engaged participation of student representatives” on faculty governance committees such as the CUP, Committee on Curricula, Subcommittee on the Communication Requirement, Subcommittee on the HASS requirement, and Committee on Academic Performance.
Bahr wrote that student input was also incorporated through a student forum held April 17 by student members of the CUP.
