6.145 IAP class to be discontinued
The three-unit IAP class 6.145 (Brief Introduction to Python) will no longer be offered starting January 2021. Course 6 majors who have not taken 6.145 will be required to take 6.0001 (Introduction to Computer Science Programming in Python) or the 6.0001 Advanced Standing Exam.
6.145 satisfied the programming skills requirement for Course 6 majors as an alternative to 6.0001, a six-unit course offered during the fall and spring semesters. This IAP, 329 students enrolled in 6.145.
EECS undergraduate officer Katrina LaCurts PhD ’14 announced the change on 6.AcAd (the EECS Piazza forum) April 21. LaCurts wrote that because EECS is in the “early planning stages” for next year’s IAP, it is unclear whether another Python class will be offered at that time.
