Handful of students to protest Trump's inauguration in D.C.

At least a dozen MIT students are getting ready to protest the inauguration of President-Elect Donald J. Trump in Washington, D.C. this Friday.

In a meeting Jan. 17, a group of around 12 students shared tips on how to deal with tear gas, arrest, and digital surveillance. The overall sentiment was one of deep distrust of the police: “they are not looking to not arrest you,” a participant said, to the laughter of the room.

A few international students also expressed concerns about effects that participating in a protest would have on their visa status.

Although they are helping each other with logistics and sharing information, the students will go their separate ways in D.C., rather than stay as a group.
