Women's tennis wins 9-0 on the road

Playing on the road for a second time in the 2015-16 season, the MIT women’s tennis team remained undefeated, recording an impressive 9-0 victory over Mount Holyoke College in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest. Junior Elysa Kohrs ’17 was a winner at both the No. 1 singles and doubles to help the Engineers to their fourth straight win.

MIT (4-0, 4-0 NEWMAC) started the match with identical 8-1 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take an early 2-0 advantage. Mount Holyoke (4-2, 2-2 NEWMAC) saw it’s No. 1 team of freshman Ayame Yazawa and senior Margaux Holloschutz put up stiff resistance against MIT’s team of Kohrs and Cindy Liu ’18, but the Engineers’ duo prevailed, 8-3, to put MIT up 3-0 going into singles play.

Dora Tzeng ’18 gave MIT its first point in singles play, taking a 6-0, 6-1 win over sophomore Ishita Tibrewal in the No. 3 match. Wendi Kong ’17 then secured the match win for the Engineers, defeating her opponent in the No. 6 match by a 6-0, 6-0 score. MIT went on to capture the remaining singles matches in straight sets, with the closest contests coming at No. 2 and No. 5. In the No. 2 match Kelly Zhu’19 held off Holloschutz, 6-2, 6-2 while Liu defeated Alexa Colas ’17, 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 5 contest.
