A return to chilly weather

Many of us abandoned our hats and gloves this weekend as sunny skies and southerly winds brought Boston a much-needed respite from the cold. Sunday’s high temperature was recorded at 52°F (11°C) — the warmest temperature Boston’s seen since February 2nd!

Unfortunately, this relief was short-lived as a cold front passed through New England on Sunday night. This cold air mass will remain in place into the weekend thanks to an Arctic cold front passing through the region on Thursday, delivering a reinforcing shot of cold air. Daily highs this week will struggle to reach the mid- to upper 20s°F—well below the average high temperature of 41°F for this time of year! Additionally, don’t be surprised if you see a few snowflakes while heading to campus tomorrow — a coastal system approaching the region brings with it a moderate chance of snow, though not much (if any) accumulation is expected at this time.
